About Don Kilby
The Town of the Blue Mountains, situated along the southern shore of Georgian Bay has been my home, my place of business and my artistic inspiration for years now. When not working in my studio, my time is otherwise spent exploring this region, rich with diversity and beauty, always with an eye open for the next painting. My only precondition in that pursuit is the next piece will be unlike any I have done before it, ensuring originality and uniqueness for each.

Paintings in FrameAfter the artwork is finished and sealed, the final step is framing, an art in itself. There are a variety of materials and approaches for framing options I have utilized over time, each option carefully assesed to make the most of this finishing touch.
For one unique painting featuring the front end of a well worn old truck, I decided an old rusted oil drum was the perfect match in colour and texture. I set about cutting, forming and fitting the material to the painting, resulting in an award winning and truly unique frame for my art. While working on each new piece of art, I am also contemplating what be be the ideal frame choice and finish to highlight the art to its best effect. To see each custom frame utilized for my available art, or options for a new commissioned piece, contact me. |
Integrity of ArtI acknowledge that the purchase of an original painting can be a considerable investment, therefore it is always my desire that this piece of art is viewed and appreciated over many years with no change in the appearance and integrity of the piece. To accomplish that, I use only the finest quality materials and processes throughout the creation of my work.
For each painting a custom stretcher frame is built, wrapped with all natural canvas, which is followed by multiply coats of gesso and sanding, all before any colour is applied. Working with the best paints available, I take as long as necessary to make the work as good as I'm capable of. Then the finished work is sealed with a couple coats of premium varnish, ensuring that art will endure long into the future! |
