Commissioned Work

Establishing balance in my artistic endeavors

I count myself among the long tradition of artists who have plied their trade on both sides of the artistic divide; that is as both a fine artist as well as a commercial artist.  The former paints whatever they choose to, with the hope that someone will appreciate it enough to take the artwork home, and the latter is a 'hired gun' who is asked to create an image based on the request of a client for use in an ad or book jacket, for example.  While I enjoy the freedom and challenge of coming up with my own ideas to paint, working together with others to realize a collective creative goal, is equally rewarding.

Growth through the Gallery

Since the opening of the Kilby Gallery, commissioned work is expanding to occupy a larger share of my painting projects, which is fine by me.  I always strive for my very best with these pieces so that along with meeting or exceeding the clients' expectations, these paintings achieve the same high standards I set for my own art and will be proudly exhibited within my own body of work.

Interested In Commissioning a Painting?

Have a look at some of my commissioned works below.  It's easy to see that the subject and scene can come in many different forms. such as:
- an actual image supplied by the client
 - a subject or scene desired by the client, which I then put together reference material that will get what is wanted
- a particular space in home or office, that determines size, then we can source through my own private reference collection, to come up with a suitable idea for a painting.

Whatever it takes, we will work together to bring your idea to completion in the form of a truly custom art piece.
give me a call, text or email and we can discuss the possibilities!

 Commissioned Artwork by Don Kilby

Picture
Fogo
We purchased our first Kilby work in 2021 after visiting Don’s gallery. After a memorable trip to Fogo Island we decided to commission another piece last year. Don came to our home to visit the space that the painting would be hung in, This gave him the opportunity to consider the size, scope and scale of what would work best and compliment the other artworks in the room. He then drew inspiration from the dozens of photos we took of the island on our trip. He did some preliminary sketches of a dramatic island scene which we approved, then collaborated with us on what our final vision of the work would be. We are extremely happy with the outcome - its a focal point of our collection. We highly value the talent of our Canadian artists, especially those who live and love the Georgian Bay.
