Judge and Judged!

Picture'Chasing the Fog' Best in Show 2012
For most artistic pursuits, from music to cooking; competitions are part of the game.  They can chase away ones' doubts, or give one cause to prove them wrong, depending on the choices made by the jurors.
Over the last few weeks I have been involved in juried competitions on both sides of the fence.
Down in Elora Ontario, which was my home some years ago, the latest 'Shirley Dilworth Jaychuck' Painting Competition was held by the Elora Center for the Arts.  This is a bi annual show that is of representational art that presents local imagery as its subject matter. At the previous event, I had the good fortune to win both 'Best of Show' and 'Peoples' Choice'.  Because of that, I was asked to help with the judging of this years' event.
With two other artists, we scanned the many entries and began the difficult process of wittling down the numbers and seeking out the top three pieces.  Anyone who has ever done this type of thing will confess that it is not an easy undertaking, especially the final few choices.  In the end we felt we had arrived at a collective group of paintings that honoured the criteria set forth and featured a good variety of artwork.

Just this past week there were two local but seperate juried exhibitions that I entered my painting in.  Over in Collingwood, the 'Blue Mountain Center for the Arts' held it judging, of which I had two works entered.  Happily, both were successful and are part of the show, which holds its launch party this Sunday afternoon.  My entries were two new pieces, seen below.

At the Juried Art show opening tomorrow at the Meaford Town Hall, in my new home town, I also had two pieces selected for inclusion.  On top of that, I am excited to announce that one of them has been selected as 'Best in Show'.  I will find out which one at the event.  Unfortunately, at this time I only have a digital image for one of the pieces, seen below.  Join me if you can at either show and watch here for mores news and pics after the respective opening.
