It's been a little over a month since the bright red door of the Kilby Gallery first swung open to let the masses inside. Well, masses is a bit of an overstatement, but the traffic has been quite good, especially the thanksgiving weekend which saw lots of folks taking in the spectacular fall colours, as well as the galleries and shops of Clarksburg.
Feedback re: the gallery itself, as well as the artwork within, has been very positive and encouraging. People love the charm and atmosphere created by the old store windows, hand hewn ceiling beams, exposed brick walls and comfortable chairs. The goal was to create a space that encouraged one to take time, maybe sit down and really absorb the artwork in the gallery. An uncluttered, spacious layout offers the viewer the chance to study each piece from a variety of viewpoints, without competing artwork getting in the way. Different people are drawn to different paintings, as the broad range of subject matter and painting sizes offers lots of variety. Finally, now that the prep work is wrapped up, the time to get some real painting done has arrived and a new large commission job, based on a remote fishing village in Scotland, is currently underway on the easel. It should make for a very striking painting, be sure to pop in and see how it is coming along!
