Today was 'Artsburg' in the arsty little village of Clarksburg where the Loft Gallery resides. Inspite of a brief but firece rain shower, the day was a big success; I was joined by a number of other artists at the gallery and beyond, working on our artwork as well as meeting and greeting many visitors.
In addition, I was happy to bring along my newest effort, 'Canadian Shield' seen above, to be included among the many paintings I now have on display at the gallery. This piece follows the pattern of a few other recent efforts, where the main subject is brought up very close, allowing the rich detail and texture of the massive rock in this case, to be examined and enjoyed. Compositionally, I designed it so the light coloured rock would dominate the painting but be surrounded on three sides by a variety of different tree slices, all eminating from the very deep, dark background shadows. The various greens are complimented by the warm fall orange and red folliage, which is kept to a minimum here.
