Denny Dog

My idea of a great portrait is one which features the subject in one of their favourite settings.  For this painting of Denny the german short haired pointer, we chose a fall scene that was a situated along one of his regular walking places.  The composition of this piece is interesting, with the large dark shape of the apple tree running up the left side of the image as well as across the top.  This balances nicely with Denny and his unmistakable markings positioned down in the lower left.  He is shown looking out of the painting to the right, focusing his attention on something we can't see but can easily speculate on.
This painting was commissioned as a surprise gift, from wife to husband, and I am happy (and relieved!) to say that he was very pleased with his one of a kind birthday present!
