Landscape painting at its' core is really all about capturing the 'mood' of a scene or particular setting. The title of this new work 'Contemplation' says it all, I believe. Even without the figure situated to the right, the painting asks the viewer to pause and look around itself; taking in the detailed rocks in the foreground, the sunlit foliage in the middle ground or the dense, dark forest to the right. The natural world offers limitless possibilities for a painter to get lost in, such as this quietly engrossing scene depicted here.
